Downloads
Here are some sample
videos. All of the clips have been compressed using
Windows Media 9 encoder at 256k and a size of 320x240.
At full resolution, raw video files take
approximately 12gb of disc space for an hour of video.
Put another way, that is about 200mb per minute. Windows
Media 9 compresses a 12gb video down to 80mb, a ratio of
about 150-to-1. While the video quality certainly
suffers, the final output size is manageable for a
broadband internet connection to download. Enjoy.
Wedding Samples
The Wedding of
Jim & Colleen - We videotaped this
wedding as a gift. We used two professional 3ccd camcorders on the left and
right sides for close-ups and three 1ccd camcorders for "fill-in" shots. Two we
placed in the center of the church (one on the main level and one in the
production loft) and a third 1ccd camera was hidden behind the stage. This
wedding demonstrates the benefit of our five camera strategy. The right side
camera was also placed on a camera dolly allowing it to be quickly moved for the
recessional and receiving line.
The original, full resolution footage takes just over 12gb of disk space. I
compressed the downloads using Windows Media encoder with a 768k variable
sampling rate. While the file size is fairly large, it is manageable with a
broadband connection. At this compression rate, the downloaded file is throwing
away about 97% of the original data, so obviously the quality is degraded.

Slide Show from Jim & Colleen's Wedding (8.5mb) - We took a series of pictures
provided by Jim & Colleen and made two slide shows to be broadcast during the
service. One used just simple dissolves and one was more complex. Jim & Colleen
chose the simple version which flowed very well with Carla Pustina's musical
accompaniment. This clip is from the full service video so if you have already
downloaded the 80mb version, you don't need this clip. On the final DVD, I also
included the original, full resolution slide show instead of the projected
images from the service. I also overdubbed the audio using Carla's performance.
Travelouge Video Samples
White Water River Walk, Niagara Falls, ON (15.4mb) - This is an example of a
travelogue video. We took our honeymoon to Niagara Falls and shot approximately
three hours of video and 500 pictures. Obviously nobody would want to sit
through all of that footage, so I distilled it down to about an hour. The result
was our friends asking to borrow the video so they could learn about the Niagara
region.
Butterfly Conservatory, Niagara Falls, ON
(14mb) - This is a second sample from
our Niagara movie.
Event Video Sample
Worship at Hidden Valley Community Church
(31mb) - This is new footage we shot July
3, 2005 as a test of our new cameras. We had a "lighting challenge" on the high
angle camera because of a poorly aimed spotlight and the drummer was not well lit, but other than that, it looks good :-)
The sounds was a mix of our newest Rode shotgun microphone and the direct feed
from the mixing board. A three frame (1/10 sec) delay imposed by the mixing
board made the audio sync a challenge, but fortunately it was fixable in post
production. Overall I am very happy with the sound for a live recording. |
